PROJECT'S RESEARCH

1.QUESTIONNAIRE

Q.HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR HOUSES??
A.by using our hands with materials like knifes to cut the bamboo trees down and the leafs.

Q.HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?
A.well approximately a year an a half.

Q.WHAT IS THE CAPACITY WHICH THEY COULD WITHSTAND?
A.the whole family can stay on the house but when a girl from the house is married outside, she moves out to stay with the husband.

Q.HOW ARE THEY BUILT?
A.they are built using material from the forest,as it provides everything. men of the village gather up and help the owner to build the house using their hands and the resources they have.

Q.WHAT MATERIAL DO YOU USE TO BUILD THEM HOUSES?
A.we use bamboo trees to make the wall, poles supporting the houses and also for stepping on,which is more like mats or floor. for roofing we use leafs called "rumbia" as many as possible and put them close by so that water may not enter.

Q.WHY ARE THEY ALL SUSPENDED FROM THE GROUND A FEW INCHES, IS THERE A SPECIFIC ANSWER TO WHY THEY ARE NOT ON THE GROUND LIKE MOST HOUSES BUILT NOWADAYS?
A.we try t avoid snakes from crawling inside, and also from water as its always raining in the forest. so with the houses suspended we are show of not sleeping with snakes and other crawlers or not having our properties soaked into water and spoiled.

Q.HOW MANY TYPES ARE THERE?
A.we only have one type, and its the one you see around everywhere.

Q.VENTILATION?
A.well as you can see the house walls are made of bamboo sticks so air ventilation is good.

Q.ORIGINALITY,HAS THE OLD HOUSES DESIGNS BEEN CHANGED FROM THE ONES WHICH ORIGINATED?
A.i am afraid not, this has been the design of the houses ever since my friend.

Q.WELL IT WAS NICE TALKING TO YOU,HOPE TO DO IT AGAIN.
A.same here, only time shall tell when.

Q.thank you sir
A.you are most welcome

2.OBSERVATION

My observation at the "ORANG AS LI SETTLEMENTS" we visited,i observed a lot of things. First thing when we arrived the eldest of the village welcomed us with a warm smile like they we expecting us. we started to interact with the people and they were all happy to have us as their visitors for the day.

Now i ll talk about the arrangements of the houses, well they were built in some sort of a circular shape with the entrance at the other end, more like a "horse shoe". they had 9 houses and 4 more houses which were not complete. and fortunately we found one of the man preparing bamboo for the new house.

The people there live like one big family and they were all under one house chilling. some ladies were washing clothes at the tap water pipe.

RESEARCH AND DATA PLANNING

  • Questionnaires:
  • a popular means of collecting data, but are difficult to design and often require many rewrites before an acceptable questionnaire is produced.
  • Interviews:
  • a technique that is primarily used to gain an understanding of the underlying reasons and motivations for people’s attitudes, preferences or behaviour.
  • Observation:
  • involves recording the behavioural patterns of people, objects and events in a systematic manner.
  • Portfolios:
  • recording information about how each problem arose, methods used to solve it, and difficulties encountered. it records everything in sufficient detail to analyse. It is very time-consuming.
  • facts findings:
  • things which are truthfully told and no one can stand in your way and argue. The facts of the place, people or their lifestyle, which is mostly true if taken first hand.
